Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place
and gave Him the Name that is above every name,
that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9-11
If, as stated in last week’s post, Christ is Everything, the unique relationship between Father and Son makes common sense.
It’s as simple as 1…2…Jesus: God the Father responds to us when we acknowledge His Son and accept by faith the love, mercy, grace and eternal life He offers.
But over the past six or eight years, the trend has become clear – and seems continually to become clearer – that the Name of Jesus Christ is far too scarce in the public square of America. For that matter, it’s even becoming scarce within some private sectors as well in the name of maintaining political correctness and protecting the feelings of other religious groups. Countless government officials, spokespersons – sadly even pastors and priests – stand before media cameras after national or international tragedies and ask God to intervene, bless and restore this nation and its affected individuals. I’ve heard them name folks from mohammad or whomever; but ironically I can count on one hand with no exaggeration – and without using all five fingers – those who have included Jesus in that invitation.
What are we doing? What have we done?
Because, again, it’s as simple as 1…2…Jesus: until we speak the Son’s Name, the Father isn’t going to respond. You see, for Him it’s a matter of principle that binds the Trinity together as an all-powerful, all-knowing, always-present God. It’s also a matter of having us recognize by faith and publicly proclaim the invitation His Son, Jesus Christ the Lamb, extended to us when He
Gave up His throne beside His Father
specifically to
Dwell among man on earth
specifically to be
Spat upon,
Crowned with thorns,
Bloodied with whips,
Tried without reason
a Cross
to Die
be Lain
in a Tomb
specifically to
specifically to
specifically to
Fallen Mankind.
And on that list of Fallen Mankind
was your name.
and my name.
So it’s as simple as 1…2…Jesus.
If Jesus did all these things for all of us – and make no mistake, He did; it wasn’tmohammad or whomever – there should not be a bone in our bodies so politically correct that we would even entertain the thought of excluding the Son’s Name when we mention the Father’s silently in prayer or audibly in prayer.
Because think about it: What if Jesus had entertained the thought of excluding our names from His plan of salvation…the one that nailed Him to the Cross and gave us our freedom?
