And going into the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother,
and they fell down and worshiped Him.
Then, opening their treasures, they offered Him gifts,
gold and frankincense and myrrh.
Matthew 2:11 ESV

It’s here! And it’s all about Him!

There’s excitement in the air this time of year at His Own Heart Ministries. Next Sunday, December 2, we begin our third annual journey with you through the season of Advent – those four weeks that culminate with the twenty-fifth day of December when we recognize with humbled, joy-filled hearts the incarnate or physical birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

And for 2018, we’re shaking things up a bit with games and prizes to make the journey even brighter than the previous two. That’s why His Own Heart is using this week’s post as a preview of what’s to come. In fact, you may want to bookmark this post to use as a reference between now and Christmas Day.

First things first, though. If this is your first Advent experience with His Own Heart – or your first experience with Advent, period – please know that you are so welcome here; it’s truly an honor to have you. Each year at this time, I find myself drawn to a wonderfully simple explanation of the season presented hereby Dr. Ryan Reeves, professor for Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Dr. Reeves points out that the joy of Advent involves so much more than looking backward into a manger in Bethlehem; it also affords us the opportunity to celebrate the string of unfathomable events set into motion by this very Birth – events like the promised and permanent atonement for sin through Christ’s death and resurrection at Calvary (see Luke 22-24), the promised arrival of our Guide – the Holy Spirit – first delivered to the original Twelve Apostles in the Upper Room after Christ’s ascension (see Acts 2), and Christ’s promised rule and re-creation of the world set to begin at the dawn of His second coming detailed (see Matthew 24:30-31).

Think – just think – for a moment about the magnitude of both of these promises. Christ has already delivered on the former promise, and all indications are that we move closer and closer to seeing the latter promise fulfilled with each passing day. Now, possibly more than at any time since His birth, Advent should be a truly exciting time for the followers who anxiously await Christ’s final return. Is it any wonder that the Apostle John deemed our LORD to be “worthy of glory, and honor, and power” (Revelation 4:11)?

With these thoughts in mind, I am so anxious to begin the journey together with you through this season of promise, of hope, of deliverance. Each week, we’ll examine a passage of Scripture tailor-made for our topic and concludes with point of application geared toward private reflection or even journaling for those who wish to do so.

And this year – thanks to the generosity of Truth Cosmetics founder Maureen Laniak – His Own Heart invites you to participate in some additional fun and prizes each week along the way when you share the blog of His Own Heart Ministries with family and friends.
